Want to Edit Content Hassle-Free in WordPress? Get Gutenberg

It’s been a while since WordPress updated its visual editor in a monumental way, that’s why we are super excited about this update that has been months in the making. Gutenberg is revolutionizing the way we are able to add and edit content on WordPress by simplifying and making the process enjoyable. A very notable difference between Gutenberg and previous builders is the fact that it allows users to work much more efficiently. The code that it generates is much cleaner and doesn’t mess with a website’s performance anymore, which is great news for all of us.

Websites are built around content, so keeping them updated is absolutely key to any business especially these days. Back in the not-so-distant past, any small copy change on a website would require hiring someone with a firm grasp of CSS, Javascript, or HTML to get the job done. It was a little tedious, required some back and forth, and wasn’t ideal for anyone whose sites needed consistent updating and maintenance. Those were the dark ages of content editing. Enter Gutenberg in all of its easy-to-use glory.

What’s in a name?

If you read the word “Gutenberg” and thought “I think I’ve heard that name, but where?”, you’re a) probably right and b) it was in your history class. Gutenberg is named after Johannes Gutenberg, a German inventor who brought printing to Europe through his invention of the movable printing press. His remarkable discovery sparked a printing revolution across Europe. The movable printing press completely changed the way that content was spread and published to the general public. This new WordPress editor update aims to do the same for the online world.

Gutenberg editor’s goal is simple: to help smooth out and simplify the content editing and publishing process for non-tech savvy website builders using WordPress. Oh, and did we mention that you can use your smartphone to make edits too and that it works super well? It’s pretty awesome.

Content Editing Has Never Been Easier

“Content is king” has become a very well-known quote we all have come to live by. What we love about Gutenberg is the fact that it is a breeze for any and all content creators to use. This really changes things up for anyone with a need to keep their audience up to date.

Nowadays, websites are incredibly collaborative projects, so being able to assign virtually anyone on your team the task to update your website’s content as needed is a tremendous help. Being unfamiliar with CSS and HTML is no longer a hindrance to keeping your site updated. You can also rest easy knowing that whoever is editing the content won’t break the site! Rather than having to learn a new tool, Gutenberg does all of the heavy lifting so your team members can continue crossing things off of their to-do list.

Blocks on Blocks on Blocks

Previously, when using WordPress, you would need to use text boxes, now, we have beautiful text blocks. This may not sound like a big difference or deal initially, but trust us- it is.

With the ease of a simple click, a user can choose the type of block they want, insert images, embed, and rearrange content (and then some). We can’t stress enough how great not needing to know coding languages to do this is! What better way to get started on churning out awesome new content without distractions or fear of breaking the site?

Speaking of distractions, when using Gutenberg, you may notice that there will be a lot more space on your screen to type when compared to the previous editor.  This is another way the editor tries to help you completely focus on creating content, no matter what size the screen you are working off is.

Final Thoughts

Gutenberg is a game-changing upgrade that lets you focus on what you do best.  Our attention spans only keep shrinking, so having valuable and dynamic content is hands down the most important thing your website can have. With Gutenberg, you can focus on making your content as close to perfect as possible, without worrying about all of the technical aspects and details that once needed to be considered when making these changes.

Gutenberg has become the official WordPress editor and we can see why. Hopefully, you can too!

At WePropagate, we are always staying up to date with the latest WordPress updates because we love what we do. If you are looking for an agency to partner with for your next project, please contact us! We would love to chat.
