We’re more than halfway through 2022 (eek!) and our eyes have been feasting on the incredible designs that are being created this year. From the usage of therapeutic color palettes to the incorporation of the metaverse from different brand names, we truly feel like we are on the cusp of a whole new digital revolution and world. This year has definitely kept us inspired and hungry for what is to come. It’s hard to imagine what it will look like in 2023 but we are ready for it!
So what are some of our favorite design trends so far this year? Let’s get into it.
3D lettering
Is there anything cooler than the world of typography? We think not. Especially when they are almost jumping off of website pages nowadays. It’s all about channeling personality and emotions when it comes to typography design and 3D lettering certainly doesn’t hold back. In the past, the focus was on clean lines and corporate minimalism. Then at some point, everything started looking and feeling like a carbon copy of itself. Every website had seemingly the same font and general layout and we as a collective got sick of it. A lot of things have happened in the past couple of years to change how we look at and interact with all things digital (ahem, pandemic), including fonts and what they represent on websites. Enter 3D lettering, a whole new world of possibilities for companies to express themselves in any way they want. With the emergence of this mesmerizing typography, designers have been able to create some incredibly engaging fonts.
Interactive 3D elements
Speaking of 3D, we are loving interactive 3D elements so much lately. Truly a place where art meets life, some of the designs we are seeing are mindblowing. Rising to the occasion during the pandemic, 3D design has become more and more popular over the past couple of years due to people spending more time at home and consequently, online. When it comes to promoting products, 2D designs are becoming a thing of the past. Interactive 3D elements allow a user to stay engaged on a page longer and bring them into a whole new world. The sky’s the limit with interactive 3D elements and they are taking website design to the next level.
Y2K nostalgia
If you’ve been noticing trends that look and feel really familiar to things that you rocked in the late 90s to early 2000s, that’s because the Y2K era is BACK. Low-fi, pixelated designs, pop-up windows, smileys everywhere… it’s all part of what is driving the design world right now. It feels somehow comforting to see these graphics trending. This trend extends way beyond the digital sphere and into fashion (although we have vowed to never accept low-rise jeans as being cool again). We can’t get enough of Y2K nostalgia, especially when it is being applied by incredibly talented designers!
At the end of the day, it’s all about breaking the mold.
The thing that all of these designs have in common is a desire to shake things up and stand out. The past few years have been dominated by minimalism and clean lines but no more. It’s no longer about white space and polished layouts for companies. Everything is moving towards loud, expressive, and “drawing outside the lines” style. In an era where having a personality is absolutely key to success, it’s important to hire an agency that knows how to incorporate relevant and meaningful designs into your brand. That’s where we come in.
At WePropagate, we are fascinated by designs that are a result of the current cultural landscape and push the envelope. From a rebranding project that uses the dopamine color palette as inspiration to creating a logo and graphic universe that uses a nostalgic feel to it, we love applying what is currently meaningful in the general culture to our client’s projects. Our goal is always to create something that will be impactful and meaningful to both you and your customers.
